Falkland Islands WWF Southern Sea Lion

May 24th, 2011

falklandswwf Falkland Islands WWF Southern Sea Lion

The Southern sea lion (Otaria flavescens) is perhaps the archetypal sea lion in appearance. Males have a very large head with a well developed lion-like mane, making them the most lionesque of the eared seals.

These sea lions are the most sexually dimorphic of the five sea lion species and size and weight varies considerably.

The Royal Mail will issue a set of 10 stamps, a miniature sheet and a prestige stamp book to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of WWF on 22 March 2011.

Personally I find the design of the miniature sheet  horrible. Also, I do not remember seeing a WWF stamp issue showing the animals not in photographic form.
