The United States Postal Service has issued a new stamp to commemorate the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The stamps design shows a leaping gymnast in red. It was designed by Clarence Chang who was the designer of the popular 1992 Year of the Rooster Chinese New Year stamp.
He was subsequently commissioned for the next 12 yearly issues of Chinese New Year stamps.
The Connoisseur Catalogue of Machin Stamps is now online. New updates are being
added regularly and once the catalogue is fully updated, they will be levying a
charge for access. Updated pages are those with colour images.
If you are a Machin collector, you should also get yourself The Complete Deegam Machin Handbook by well known Machin expert Douglas Myall. This catalogue is available in printed or CD ROM versions.
Reguar updates for the CD ROM version are emailed to you by Douglas Myall himself. You can access a copy of the flyer here.
Joint issues by postal administrations are very popular nowadays, both for the issuing bodies and collectors.
Collectors from both the countries want a set of the the stamps from each country. This means extra sales and profits for the issuing post offices.
No wonder more and more are being issued and usually under the guise of cutual exchange of to improve country to country relations.
Anyway, Singaporeans are known to be eating out a lot but I am not sure whether this set will appeal to non collectors.
